  • Eddie Redmayne made headlines in a striking black and white Valentino suit at the 2025 Golden Globes.
  • Celebrating his nomination for playing a stylish assassin in The Day of the Jackal, his past red carpet looks are equally eye-catching.
  • The Day of the Jackal, inspired by Frederick Forsyth’s novel, combines espionage intrigue with enviable fashion… and it’s already greenlit for a second season.

We’ve been banging the Day of The Jackal drum for some months now, but seeing its leading man step out onto the Golden Globes red carpet in a suit as killer and controversial as the assassin he plays surpassed our highest expectations.

Eddie Redmayne made a typically head-turning entrance to the 82nd Golden Globes in Los Angeles wearing a black and white Valentino suit with a bold, wide plaid. The British actor — who first appeared to walk the red carpet alone but later confirmed he was joined by his wife Hannah Bagshawe — is nominated for ‘Best Actor in a Television Drama’ for his turn as the titular assassin in The Day of the Jackal. He faces unenivably stiff competition from Donald Glover, Jake Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Billy Bob Thornton.

Speaking to red carpet reporters, Redmayne revealed that there was a practical reason behind his monochrome suiting choice: “I’m colourblind, which is why I’m wearing black and white tonight. When I wear colour it can be a bit risky…”

Redmayne on the Red Carpet

Redmayne’s eye-catching look continues his apparent passion for challenging men’s fashion conventions. Last year, he and Bagshawe attended the Met Gala in matching outfits by Steve O Smith. The couple, who have been married since 2015, have made a habit of attending high-profile events together, including the premiere of The Day of the Jackal in October 2024.

While tonight marks Redmayne’s fourth Golden Globe nomination, it is far from the first time his suiting has turned heads. In 2023, he arrived at the ceremony in a chocolate-coloured Valentino piece. Whether it’s earthy tones or statement patterns, the Fantastic Beasts alum always finds a way to stand out, and his long-standing relationship with Valentino seems to be the perfect way to keep that trend ticking…

Daring Style for a Daring Role

Redmayne’s red carpet style is well-matched for a splendidly dressed character in the show. Beyond a now-iconic ‘Jackaroo’ inspired ensemble, Redmayne’s wardrobe is a case study in quiet sophistication. As the series progresses, we see him transition from trench coats to low-key Loro Piana baseball caps, then into Brunello Cucinelli-inspired tailored jackets, each piece carefully selected to communicate his character’s meticulous approach to, well, pretty much everything. Celebrity stylist, Jeff Lack, gave us his two cents:

“I like how he moves to different climates and locations, so you see versatility in what he’s wearing, but it’s always consistent with his personality.”

One of the most unique aspects of his wardrobe is how it subtly reinforces his chameleon-like ability to adopt different personas. When he needs to blend in, he opts for minimal, dark colours and fabrics that allow him to slip through the crowd. Yet, when he adopts a more polished disguise, we see flashes of paisley scarves, Borsalino hats, and perfectly crafted three-piece suits — each item a nod to his high-society alter-egos. His watches aren’t too shabby either…

The Day of the Jackal: Where to Watch and Second Season

Based on Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 thriller, The Day of the Jackal has already been renewed for a second season, much to Redmayne’s delight. “All I can think of is dream locations where I would like the Jackal to go — pretty much all of the places mentioned in that phone call,” he has said elsewhere, referencing welcomely warmer locations like the Maldives or Turks and Caicos.

Redmayne also shared that the original 1973 film was a favourite of his father’s — evidently an early influence on the actor’s fascination with espionage. “I’ve never done espionage and this was my attempt to do it,” he admitted. Judging by his Golden Globe nomination and the buzz surrounding The Day of the Jackal, his attempt was clearly a success…

If you haven’t jumped on board, The Day of the Jackal is now streaming on Binge in Australia, Sky in the UK, and Peacock in the US. This isn’t just a hitman with a job to do — this is a hitman with enviable taste and an adaptable wardrobe that somehow finds a sweet spot between quiet luxury and rugged outback charm.
